Hi all,

-------------------------------
NetWare 6.5.5
GroupWise 6.5.6
-------------------------------

What are all the steps required to have READ RECEIPTS on Internet
emails, and is it possible to have READ RECEIPTS for emails you send
without your system also sending read receipts to the senders of
incoming Internet emails ?

Well, you actually already outline the problem. Like you, most
receipients don't want to send read receipts (and so they actually
don't), so there's in reality nothing you can do. What good is a read
receipt when you don't know if the receipient actually supports it and
has it enabled?

Hi Massimo,

I know all that. On our server we have Outbound Level set to NONE.

Our client, a law firm, however, want it enabled in case some of their
recipients might have Delivery Notifications turned ON, which some
still do nowadays.

So, the philosophical aspects of the issue aside, my question still
remains ? Is it possible in GW65 to have READ RECEIPTS for emails
you send without your system also sending read receipts to the senders
of incoming Internet emails ?

Of course. The two directions have no connection to each other. When you
send a message, you request a read receipt, and if you're really lucky
to find a receipient that will return it, you'll get it. There's no
connection to the receiving side of things here. If you think of DSN,
DNS does not do read receipts at all. It ends at delivery.

Send options in the client. And you don't need to worry about outgoing
read receipts, groupwise doesn't do them on request at all. Either for
*all* messages (and you would know that, as you would receive lots of
complaints), or not at all.
