Discussion:
Unread items count wrong on Mailbox

I have a user complaining about the number of unread/new items next to the
mailbox showing 22 when there is nothing new or unread. This number
increments when new mails arrive and reduces once it has been read but never
goes below 22. I have seen other threads about this but nothing with a
solution. I have tried Structural rebuild, Analyze/Fix on Structure and
then Contents. Neither of these have fixed the problem.

I have tried rearranging the folders into the correct order but this does
not work. I have also tried moving all items from the Mailbox into a
temporary folder and back again and highlighting all messages in the Mailbox
and marking them as unread and then back to read.

Is there anything else to try? I don't want to have to recreate this users
mailbox as there are over 15000 items overall. In the actual mailbox folder
there are only 13 items. They seem to manage their mailbox pretty well.

Thanks,

Stuart

Usually, it's because of their folder arrangement, in every case I've come
across here (GW 6.5).

Start playing around within their account and straighten out all the folders
to be in default order, ie mailbox, sent items, etc, on down the list.
You'll probably start seeing the number decreasing as you get everything in
the default order.

Have them empty their trash - I've seen unread deleted emails still add to the Count on the Mailbox icon.

I have tried both these suggestions. I have sorted the folders into the correct order and have emptied the trash. It is still showing 22 unread messages.

Any other ideas?

Try this - Perform a Tools|Find and find all items. Email unread should show up in Bold. What version of GroupWise are you running on the server and on the client?

I have done search. There are lots of emails in other folders which are unread so it displays a lot of unread items.

We are running GW6.5.4 on the servers and GW6.5.2 and 6.5.4 on the clients. I have tested in both versions of the client.

Thanks,

Three options: Try archiving everything and unarchiving it or you will need to call NTS or teach the user to live with it. I'm all out of tricks at this point.
