Path to the caching mailbox is required

Once into the caching mailbox, can you use the selector thing to change to
online - the user icon in the top left below the toolbars

So if you close the client down from online mode, doesn't it then remember
that and restart in the same mode it last closed down ?. That's what it
should do - TID 10086885 may give you somewhere to start looking for the
problem
