Hi,

we have GW 6.5.7 with 11 Postoffices.

When a users sends a mail to *.* the mail is automatically sent a second time a few minutes later to all users.

Why? What can I do to prevent this behaviour?

Are you saying that they address to both the user specifically and then
also to *.*? The reason *.* is sending to everyone is because that is a
wildcard address for automatically sending a system wide message. You
must disable wildcard addressing if you don't want to allow your users
to be able to do this.
don't think that's what they are saying. Does the properties of the
sent item show them as twice? Can you demonstrate with a screenshot
attached.

We want to enable *.*, because some mails have to be send to every GW user.
When such a mail is sent twice automatically, in sent item there are 2
mails displayed with some minutes difference.
But the user has definitely send it only one time.
This is very anoying, because many users give a feedback like "Why did
you send the mail twice?..."

any c3pos installed? That's all I can think of.

Happens for ALL users sending to *.*?

What about an absolutely clean-nofrills install

Sorry I misunderstood. What are the minute differences in the 2 sent
items?
and do you have any 3rd party products integrating with groupwise
or any av scanners on those servers.

No, there are no Custom 3rd Party objects installed.
It happens with some workstation / users, but not for all.
and it happens CONSISTENTLY with them? or intermittently?

Does a resend replicate the issue?
it happens intermittently

Never tested to resend the same message.
When the mail is send once, but received twice it is akward enough.

Ok, well then, I guess I have nothing more to suggest. That would have
been a useful test.
